Whether it’s magical history, pressure putting greens or the largess of the tourney, the Masters is one of golf’s gems. Recent winners have this type of background heading into the event. Few winners do it in their debut, they usually have some historical success on the course and have won a PGA event leading up to the Masters during the season.
Note the last three of four Masters winners had previously won the PLAYERS just prior.
2025 Rory McIlroy (Multi year history and T10s or better, 2nd in 2022), 2x winner in 2025 prior to Masters
2024 Scheffler (T19, T18, Winner, T10 prior to 2024), 2x winner in 2024 prior to Masters
2023 Jon Rahm (T27, T5, T7, T9), 3x winner in 2023 prior to Masters
2022 Scheffler (T19, T18), 2x winner in 2022 prior
2021 Hideki Matsuyama (T7, T11, 19, T32, T13), did not win prior
2020 Dustin Johnson (Nov) (T4, T6, WD, T10, T2), multi winner that season
2019 Tiger Woods (5x champion winner), did not win prior
